Thirty-one

Not that this one is that much better than my iPhone picture, it was the best I could get at this event (Sesame Street Live).  And to be completely honest, I had to switch to auto mode to even get a decent shot, including this one.  I have no idea (YET) how to change my settings to adjust for using a flash.  So eventually I'll get there but until then, I didn't want to go through the event and not get even one decent shot!  ;)

I'm too tired to edit/post the real one so this iPhone picture will have to do for now!

Waiting for Sesame Street Live to begin!

Twenty-nine

My little girl making some tea!  I miss my little family when I work that much.  But the advantage is, now I have ten blissful days off before I have to work again.  Hopefully I'll have more time to put into getting some better, more creative shots.

Things I'd change next time...I'd remove the chair from the background and try to get better lighting to increase my shutter speed without increasing my ISO (it was after dark at this point).  I'd also fix her hair since it was looking a little crazy from playing/napping all day but honestly...I was/am exhausted.  I tried fixing the colors in LR but I couldn't seem to get it right.  When I tried to correct for her skin, the background just seems off to me.  I think I need a good night's sleep!  ;)

I work the next four nights in a row so I'm not sure what I'll be able to get the next couple days!  It's not like I can take pictures of my patients or anything...LOL!  (Although I'd love to because they are usually so darn cute!)

Since I certainly don't want the only self-portrait on here to be of my feet, here I am!  Not very inspired and soft in focus, but I love the light in my room!

Note to self...buy a remote.

Twenty-three

Not exactly the picture I wanted...but when you have a two year old that doesn't sit still...EVER, it was the best I was going to get.  I painted Ella's toes to match mine last week and I wanted to get a picture of our feet together.  Here, I was trying to get the picture while Ella was in the shower.  I kept trying to convince her to put her feet up next to mine so we could show our pink toes.

Sadly, I only managed one shot that was even remotely in focus, and that shot had MY ugly feet more in focus than her cute ones.  I keep waiting for the day when Ella will sit sweetly and be my perfect little model.  But from all the mommy photographer blogs I read I do realize that will probably never happen, LOL!

Twenty-two

It is my birthday today.  I was actually gone up north at my sister's cottage with my daughter all weekend (my hubby, Mike, had to work today) and just got back this evening.  Mike surprised me with a dozen beautiful deep orange roses.  I don't have a macro so this is the best I could get.  I really didn't do much editing to this photo.  I even turned DOWN the saturation and vibrance a tad to try and make it look more realistic.   But I like the final photo.  It almost looks like a painting to me. (probably mostly because it's out of focus...LOL!)

Sixteen

As I was driving through Pontiac today I kept my eye open for something that peaked my interest.  It is an interesting little city and I figured I could find something.  What I did not expect was my resulting embarrassment as I saw a few potential shots but also noticed too many people around.  I felt like people might think I was weird for getting out of my car and taking a photo.  But, I finally found this spot and there wasn't really anyone around.  I felt like it had just the right amount of light considering it was 11:30 in the morning.  I loved the bright red of the doors and the surrounding brick.  I work tonight and tomorrow night so I'm not sure what kind of shots I'll find the next couple days.

Thirteen

So tonight was the big 2014 Corvette reveal.  I was lucky enough to be able to go.  It was so cool being there live!  Great excitement, great food and just a great time in general.  I was very proud of my husband for his part in engineering an awesome car.

(By the way, have you ever driven a Corvette?  Trust me, you haven't lived until you have! I can't wait to get a chance to drive this one!)

My hubby is the guy just to the right of the lady in red.

I ended up adding the following pics.  My hubby was not free to entertain me the whole night so I used the time to practice taking more creative shots.  The venue the reveal was held at was amazing and the lighting was crazy.   So here's a few extra shots I thought turned out pretty decent.  I actually had a LOT of fun doing this.  I'm sure I looked like a moron taking pictures of the building while 99.99% of everyone else was taking pictures of the car but...oh well!)

(I know, I know, it's only supposed to be one picture a day but it's my blog and I posted these so a few of my family members who are not on Facebook could see them.

Taking advantage of the relatively nice weather we are having by riding bikes on the driveway!

I just wish I knew how to correct the yellow color cast from her helmet that is on the side of her face using lightroom...anyone want to jump in with some tips.  I have Lightroom 3.

This was just a snapshot (hence the disturbing amount of clutter in the background) but I love the look on my daughter's face.  Like a Hollywood starlet...

I also love that it has my tripod in it.  I got it for Christmas and it immediately became HER camera!

Eight

So I wasn't really happy with any pictures today....

This first was a beautiful sunset as viewed from the sidewalk up to our front porch.  I only had a minute to get the shot since my daughter was inside, alone, and banging on the window for me to come back in (not to mention I didn't have shoes on and my feet were freezing).  The colors were awesome but I didn't really know what to focus on.  When I tried a smaller (or is it bigger) aperture (F/6.3) it just seemed a jumbled mess of dark branches.  So I tried to open up my aperature and focus on a nearby tree that was close, small and relatively simple so that the background would be a "Bokeh" of sorts of sunset colors.  I didn't exactly get the photo to match the vision in my head.

ISO 400  50mm  F/3.2  1/6 sec.

So then I tried to practice something else for a little bit.

This is what you do, when you want to try something and your only willing subject is a stuffed rabbit.  Need I say more...?

Seven

Today we made some Zoku pops for the first time.  It was a Christmas present from Ella's Nana and Papa.  I realize it's not exactly a great winter-time snack but it was still fun watching them freeze.

I love how Bennie (our Australian Shepherd) always seems to get in the background of my shots!  LOL!

Geez...it is really hard to pick just one!  I don't think this one was even my best today but it was the one I loved the most.  I wasn't expecting to take this one.  Just saw a moment.  I only had a second or two to get the shot since we were all squished in the car and I made my hubby stop so I could get it.  I didn't have the right lens (50mm prime so I could barely back up enough to get them both in), I didn't set my white balance correctly (didn't even check it honestly) and forgot that my ISO was up really high so it had a lot of noise.  Yes, I'm a total newbie...but I guess that's how you learn.

Five

Hmmm...I couldn't decide which picture to use.  None of them are particularly amazing (not that anything I take is amazing...yet).  I haven't been doing much lately besides playing at home with my daughter.  Unfortunately, I did go out to dinner tonight to someplace that would have been amazing to get a few shots but I didn't bring my camera...bummer.  Oh well, I have all year!  ;)
